What is HDB Home Improvement Program (HIP)?

HDB HIP was introduced in 2007 to enhance your home safety and comfort. If your HDB flat is 30 years or older, it’s likely to be selected for HDB HIP.

The main aim of the program is to carry out upgrading works to make your flat more livable and safe, while improving its value as it ages.

There are basically three kinds of upgrades under HDB HIP:
1. Essential improvements
2. Optional improvements
3. Enhancement for Active Seniors (EASE)

What is the process?

Once your HDB block has been selected for the HDB HIP, HDB will hold a poll for the Singapore citizens of the block and work will only proceed when at least 75% vote in favour. Note that Singapore Permanent Residents (SPRs) are not eligible to vote.

During the HDB HIP renovation, can I contact my own contractor to replace my windows & grilles?

The duration of HDB HIP in each flat is estimated to take 10 working days or less, depending on the improvements chosen.

During this renovation period, if you wish to replace your old and worn-out windows and grilles, you may contact a HDB-licensed and BCA-approved contractor such as Home Aluminium Metal Works.
