HDB Home Improvement Program (HIP)

HIP is the perfect time to enhance your home’s safety and aesthetics. While HDB manages essential structural repairs, upgrading your windows and grilles is a popular optional improvement that we provide.

What To Expect

Our 3-Step HIP Process at Home Aluminium

Under the HDB Home Improvement Programme (HIP), replacing your windows, grilles and gates are optional upgrades you can do.

Selection & Consultation

The duration of HDB HIP in each flat typically takes 10 working days or less.

During this renovation period, if you wish to replace your old and worn-out windows, grilles and gates, you may contact us at Home Aluminium Metal Works (HDB-licensed and BCA-approved contractor).

We’ll help you choose designs that match your estate’s required facade—ensuring your new sliding or casement windows meet all HDB design specifications.

Permit & Compliance

As a BCA-approved window contractor (Regulatory Workhead RW01), we handle the heavy lifting. We submit the mandatory HDB renovation permit applications and ensure all materials, like Grade 304 stainless steel rivets, meet safety standards.

Hassle-Free Installation

We coordinate with the main HIP schedule to ensure our installation happens at the optimal time, minimising dust and disruption to your daily life.

What You Need To Know

Important HIP Facts for Homeowners

HDB HIP was introduced in 2007 to enhance your home safety and comfort. If your HDB flat is 30 years or older, it’s likely to be selected for HDB HIP.

The main aim of the program is to carry out upgrading works to make your flat more livable and safe, while improving its value as it ages.

Once your HDB block has been selected for the HDB HIP, HDB will hold a poll for the Singapore citizens of the block and work will only proceed when at least 75% vote in favour. Note that Singapore Permanent Residents (SPRs) are not eligible to vote.

Safety First

Only BCA-approved contractors listed in the HDB Directory are permitted to carry out these works. Engaging an unlisted contractor can lead to fines and forced rectification.

Subsidies

If you are a Singapore Citizen, your optional window and grille upgrades are heavily subsidised, with homeowners typically paying only 5% to 12.5% of the cost, depending on flat type.
